I have been wanting to start a blog since we moved to Florida but just haven't gotten around to it. Soo here goes a little bit of a background and catch up.
In the fall of 2012 PJ came to me telling me about a job opportunity he might have in Florida. We had just bought our first house in Buckeye, I was a couple months pregnant at the time, Lillian was around 7 months old and JR had just turned 3. I really didn't want to talk about it since it's hard to make big decisions when you have so much going on at that moment. We decided we would wait a year so I could have the baby and PJ could see how his current job would progress. He had been told me would be moving up so we were waiting for that to happen.
January 2013 PJ got his foot run over by a truck at work. He thankfully only had a dislocated big toe with a fracture in it and another toe broken, sorry I don't know the technical names of the bones. A week and a half after breaking it they finally were able to do surgery and place a pin in his foot. PJ was laid up for 2 months, we got workman's comp but it wasn't enough to cover everything so we ended up going through all our savings also. He returned back to work doing office work and helping with job sites. We thought that would be his entry into moving up but when he applied for the position they said no. Once that happened PJ got early release from his Dr so he could go back to the crew and not have to deal with office work anymore. With moving up nowhere in site anymore and me dealing with a lot of stress we decided if the opportunity was still available we would think about it a little more. One night while PJ was working I realized that I was being selfish by holding my husband back from moving up in his career for my own emotional reasons. That night I text him and told him that I was sorry and that we could go and I would be perfectly fine with it since my job is to lift him up and help him achieve his goals.
May or June of 2013 we were on our way to planning our move to Florida!! We were very excited!! We got our house cleaned up and had our realtor come take some pictures and list it for sale. I started packing away stuff the first week of July and by the end of July we had accepted an offer! August 27, 2013 Evelyn, Lillian and I got on a plane and headed to Florida! PJ, Junior and Ginger all drove together in the Uhaul with everything we owned towing my car behind them. It was quite the man trip with candy, fast food and stinky boys. They arrived at PJ's parents house August 30, 2013. I immediately had to give Junior a bath, wash his car seat and sanitize the U-haul.
There we were, our home for the next 3 months. Our plan was to rent a house anywhere between my in-laws house in Ormond Beach and PJ's main job site in Kissimmee. We looked and looked and emailed and called people. Something we have come to learn since living here is that business owners do NOT call back. a couple months went by with not a single house visited. The cost for a rental house was going to be expensive.. We decided that since rentals weren't happening that we might as well look at homes to buy. We looked online at homes that were big and nice but they didn't meet MY requirements, one major one being it had to be a one story. I started expanding my search to acreage which has been both our dreams. There was nothing in our price range in the area we were looking that allowed us to have 1 horse or more. PJ one day while looking online found a house, sent it to our realtor and for some reason it wasn't even in her records of being for sale. She called the realtor in charge of the house and we met her there to see it. I was skeptical at first because of all the roughage on the property but the house was in immaculate condition and literally looked brand new even though it was 22 years old! PJ of course made up his mind it was the one, there was no arguing at this point. We called the realtor 10 minutes after leaving and made an offer. She had one other offer on the table they were waiting for but said she would let us know Monday, 2 days later. Well, the owner didn't wait for the offer and called Sunday afternoon letting us know she accepted! Whoohoo! We were going to be home owners again and for 2.18 acres!
Closing was very fast. We got the keys 2 days before Thanksgiving, we moved in that weekend. It was kind of sad to not see my in-laws everyday but I think the breaking point would have come if we didn't get out of there soon. My sister in law was nice enough to let us borrow her bedroom for 3 months and shared her living room with JR.
So here we are almost 3 months into our new house. We love it, the kids love it. We have began to clear some of the vines/trees/roughage but I think it's time to call in the big guns. We are looking into getting a quote to see how much it would be to clear the rest of the lot or see how far $** would get us.
